As a result of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, panchayati raj institutions have been given wide powers to three tier Panchayats after getting constitutional status.
In the process of decentralization, the need for State Level Panchayati Raj Training Institutes (PRIT) was felt by the Central Government and the State Government to train elected representatives and officers and staff associated with panchayats for capacity building of Panchayats.
A proposal was sent to the Government by Director Panchayati Raj on 7th May, 2015 for setting up of Panchayati Raj Training Institute (PRIT) towards realizing this requirement.
Decision taken by Hon'ble Council of Ministers regarding constitution of PRIT was approved by the Government vide order dated 14th March, 2016 for setting up of Panchayati Raj Training Institute (PRIT) vide order dated 18th March, 2016.
In order to obtain clearance from the Government, Panchayati Raj Training Institute (PRIT) was set up at Lohia Bhawan, Aliganj, Lucknow. The Panchayati Raj Training Institute (PRIT) under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 was registered on 5th May, 2016.
Out of the amount infected annually for rural bodies for recurring expenditure required for running the Institute of Training, Studies, Tours, Research and Training of elected representatives and personnel of Panchayati Raj Institutions, 0.15% has been quantified for Panchayati Raj Training Institute under the recommendations of the 4th State Finance Commission at the State level.
This quantified amount will not be lapsed or diverted. Training has been imparted by the Institute to 740527 Panchayat representatives/officers/staff since its inception.
